On Wednesday, according to multiple media reports, the Baltimore Ravens plans to hire Michigan assistant Mike Macdonald as their next defensive coordinator.
The Baltimore Ravens fired defensive coordinator Don Martindale on Friday after they couldn’t agree on a contract.
The contract is expected to be completed within this week, and Mike Macdonald will not be participating in the subsequent recruiting sessions as Michigan’s defensive coordinator. Mike Macdonald spent seven years with the Baltimore Ravens as the interior linebacker coach for the 2018-20 season before moving to Michigan last year.
Mike Macdonald has significantly improved Michigan’s defensive performance this season, and the team has improved from an average of 34.5 points per game in 2020 to just 17.4 points per game this season, ranking eighth in the nation. Michigan also beat arch-rival Ohio State for the first time since 2011 and won its first Big Ten division championship since 2004.
